On Friday, October 21 The Historic Palace Theatre in downtown Crossville will pair two exciting bands that exemplify southern soul: BLUE MOTHER TUPELO and BROTHER MAVEN. PASTE Magazine claimed, “Blue Mother Tupelo is quite possibly the best husband & wife duo you’ve never heard of.” The duo is Ricky & Micol (pronounced “Michael”) AnneÂÂ Davis, a husband-and-wife duo who began in Knoxville in 1995 and evolved into their own kind of southern fried blues, outlaw gospel and southern soul. About BMT, the Planet WeeklyÂÂ described their music as “Super songs played by super musicians. It’s soulful/bluesy with Southern Rock, classic country, gospel and even a bit of adult album alternative influences.” Micol grew up with her preacher daddy singing Jimmy Reed songs for lullabies. Ricky had a family that played country and rock ‘n’ roll. Both waded through the American musical canon on their way to the current group, so you might hear echoes of anything from the last hundred years. Rising up from theÂÂ bluffs of Memphis to the mountains of east Tennessee, through the MississippiÂÂ Delta and Nashville, the couple now makes Como, Mississippi their home, and from there they make the kind of blue southern soul and roots rock sound that’s been described as truly Americana. BROTHER MAVEN is a quartet who combines elements of rhythm and blues, southern soul, rock ‘n’ roll, and country to create their own distinct sound. Their catchy melodies, soaring vocals, and infectious grooves all add up to create one of the most exciting new sounds in music today. Hailing from four different hometowns in four different states, Daniel, Scott, JP, and Joel formed the group in Nashville after each making the move to pursue their own musical dreams.
