Public Works

The Public Works Department is responsible for the City of Crossville's low pressure sewer maintenance, water maintenance, grinder pump systems, fire hydrants, cemetery graves, street right-of-way maintenance, sidewalks, traffic signals, drainage, street signs, street cleaning, snow removal, various road projects, garbage can replacement, groundskeeping, and mechanical/vehicle maintenance.

Effective November 4, 2018, you will notice certain traffic signals within the City limits placed on “flash” during designated hours to ease the flow of traffic during low traffic hours. Operation hours of lights on flash will be from Midnight to 5:00 AM. Traffic signals will resume normal operation after 5:00 AM.

Remember to follow the rules of the road and proceed according to City Ordinance 15-507 found under Title 15, Chapter 5, page 24 of the City of Crossville, Code of Ordinances:

  1. Flashing red (Stop signal). When a red lens is illuminated with intermittent flashes, drivers of vehicles shall STOP before entering the nearest crosswalk at an intersection or at a limit line when marked, or if none, then before entering the intersection, and the right to proceed shall be subject to the rules applicable after making a stop at a stop sign.
  2. Flashing yellow (Caution signal). When a yellow lens is illuminated with intermittent flashes, drivers of vehicles may proceed through the intersection or past the signal ONLY WITH CAUTION.

RULES FOR LEAF COLLECTION:

  1. Leaves will be picked up between November 1st and February 28th as weather permits.
  2. Pickups are limited to 3 per household per year. Additional pickups must be approved by the Street Department Manager.
  3. Leaves must be within 6 feet of the curb in order for the vacuum truck to reach them.
  4. Leaves DO NOT need to be bagged. However, if you choose to bag your leaves, they will be picked up.
  5. Leaves must be free of limbs, branches, trash, etc.
  6. TO NOTIFY THE CITY OF CROSSVILLE YOU HAVE LEAVES READY TO BE PICKED UP, PLEASE GO HERE TO SUBMIT A WORK ORDER OR CALL  931-484-7631.

Every possible effort will be to pick up leaves as soon as possible after a work order being placed with Public Works. However, weather plays a huge factor in the amount of time necessary to collect leaves.

RULES FOR BRUSH PICKUP

  1. Brush from commercial tree and landscaping services must be disposed of by the contracting company and not left for collection by the city contractor.
  2. Brush must not be larger than 4 inches in diameter and no longer than 6 feet.
  3. Brush pile must be within 5 feet of the curb and not placed against trees, fences, utility poles or other stationary objects. Piles must be no larger than 4ft high, 4ft wide and 8ft long.

CWD’s holiday pick up schedule is as follows:

 CWD does not run the regular route on Thanksgiving and Christmas days.  If your address is scheduled for one of those days, the trash will be picked up the following day. 

The regular pick up schedule applies for all other holidays.
