ITEM #1 – MATTERS RELATIVE TO CITY OF CROSSVILLE CITY MANAGER INTERVIEW

Mayor Graham gave introductory remarks about his concept for the parameters for the selection of the next City Manager.  In his remarks, he discussed the great changes made in the City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County over many years from one of the dirtiest cities in the nation to one of the cleanest.  He introduced Curtis Adams, current Chairman of the Hamilton County Commission, and one of those involved in the transformation of Chattanooga and Hamilton County.  Mayor Graham stated that he had become aware of the availability of Mr. Adams and had made contact with him and visited with him in Chattanooga.

Mr. Adams reflected on his career as a Hamilton County Commissioner, past president of the Chamber of Commerce, Tennessee Tourist Development Board, East Ridge city manager, newspaper executive, and numerous other positions.  He also discussed his strengths and weaknesses as well as answered questions from the Council.  He stated that, if selected, would be available full-time by May 17.

Mayor Graham pointed out that skills and leadership abilities, not age, are qualities that determine effectiveness.  Councilmen Kerley and Dean both expressed their desire to consider other applicants, but were impressed with the experience of Mr. Adams.  Councilman Wyatt stated that he had known Curtis for the last 4˝ to 5 years, but hadn’t talked to him in 9-10 months.  From that, he knew that Curtis will help you out when you need help.  He further emphasized that the City is looking for jobs, needs help, and felt like Mr. Adams could help us with that.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:44 p.m.
